Memory Triggers
I decided to experiment with deconstructing the painted image to further remove it from its original source.
I started by photographing the photographs through a filter to blur the images. I then investigated disrupting the surface of the painting by first pouring paint over it and then taking this a step further by pouring turps over the newly painted surface.
I tried layering my images. I painted one image in acrylic paint, and let it dry. I then painted another image over this in oil paint and poured turps over this. I was hoping that the image underneath would be partly revealed, like the layering of history. This was not altogether successful as it was not possible to discern the image underneath.
I investigated covering the painted image in a layer of paraffin wax. I was pleased with the opaque dream like effect. It was difficult to control the effect as the wax sometimes dried in strange patterns, and if poured too thickly the image was all but lost.
